Connecting the Field: How Protos Technology Simplifies Off-Duty Management

Share:

In This Blog: Explore How Protos Centralizes Vendor Operations

Off-duty law enforcement officers dedicate their time to protecting and serving communities even after their regular shifts end. Managing those off-duty assignments, however, has traditionally come with challenges such as paperwork, limited visibility and delayed payments.

At Protos Security, we saw an opportunity to simplify and strengthen how off-duty work operates. Through technology built for law enforcement, we’ve streamlined coordination, improved transparency and created a better experience for the officers, coordinators and agencies who depend on us every day — from how shifts are managed to how pay is seen and received.

The Evolution of Protos Select

The creation of the Protos Select mobile app marked a major shift in how off-duty officers manage their work. What once required manual scheduling and paper timesheets is now handled directly through a single app. Officers can easily view and accept available shifts, log hours with GPS-verification, report incidents and stay informed with real-time updates, all in one place.

The response from the field was immediate. Within months of launch, the Protos Select app became an essential tool for Protos off-duty officers nationwide, recognized for its innovation and impact. In fact, the app was nominated for the 2025 U.S. Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPA) at GSX. A milestone that underscored its growing influence within the security industry.

This category celebrates products that demonstrate innovation, measurable impact and clear value to the security industry, criteria that reflect exactly what Protos Select was built to achieve. Designed specifically for off-duty law enforcement officers and coordinators, the app combines real-time scheduling, GPS-verified timekeeping and intuitive shift management tools to simplify how off-duty work is organized, tracked and completed. By centralizing communication and scheduling, it brings efficiency and transparency to an area that was once manual and fragmented.

Listening, Learning and Building: The Coordinator Portal Journey

As adoption grew, coordinators began requesting more ways to manage their assignments digitally. They needed a clear view of available shifts, who was scheduled and how work was being distributed. Protos responded.

Within months, the Protos Coordinator Portal was developed and launched, giving coordinators the ability to oversee scheduling, assign or reassign officers to shifts and communicate directly through a centralized platform.

Coordinator Portal Development Timeline

Development Started: April 2025

Transparency in Action: Real-Time Pay Visibility

As Protos Select adoption expanded, one consistent theme emerged from user feedback: officers wanted more visibility into when they were getting paid.

That feedback inspired the launch of Pay Transparency, a new feature within the Protos Select app that gives officers and coordinators real-time access to their current and future pay, reimbursements and deposits. Every shift worked, every reimbursement earned – all displayed clearly within the app’s new Shift Earnings section under the Profile menu.

The experience is immediate and intuitive, allowing users to view their pay grouped by week and see when payments have been processed. Getting paid promptly matters, Protos also includes Expedited Pay, ensuring earnings are deposited faster, because what officers earn should never have to wait.

Together, Pay Transparency and Expedited Pay represent a major step forward in empowering officers with clarity and control over their earnings. No delays, no guessing, just real-time visibility and faster access to what’s theirs.

Full Circle: A Connected Ecosystem That Works Together

What began as a single mobile app has evolved into a fully connected ecosystem that unites officers, coordinators and clients — all working together within one transparent framework.

Through the Protos Select mobile app, officers can view their schedules using the in-app calendar, receive real-time notifications and manage their shifts by picking up or dropping assignments as needed. They can also report incidents directly through the app, ensuring timely communication and documentation while on site. The app provides full visibility into shift details and earnings through Pay Transparency, allowing officers to stay informed and confident in their work.

The Protos Coordinator Portal offers a streamlined, user-friendly way for coordinators to manage off-duty operations. Coordinators can easily assign, reassign, or unassign officers from shifts, view all officers they are responsible for and manage their scheduling needs efficiently — all from a single platform. They can also perform these same actions directly within the mobile app, providing flexibility both in the office and in the field.

The addition of the new Protos Coordinator Portal is outstanding. It provides coordinators multiple tools to perform tasks
and view data all in one well organized location.

The Client Portal ties everything together, bringing data from both officers and coordinators into one cohesive platform. Clients gain full visibility into off-duty staffing at their locations, including officers assigned, clock-ins and clock-outs and any reported incidents. This level of transparency ensures accountability and confidence without the need for multiple systems or manual reporting.

Together, these three platforms create an integrated ecosystem that enhances visibility, coordination and communication across every stage of off-duty management.

Built with Purpose, Evolving with You

Even in their earliest forms, these platforms have become essential tools for law enforcement and agency partners. Each innovation, from GPS timekeeping to Pay Transparency, is driven by one purpose: to make off-duty management simpler, faster and more transparent for those who serve.

At Protos, we’re continuing to evolve our technology to support off-duty law enforcement officers, coordinators and agencies across the country. By listening to feedback, responding quickly and designing with purpose, we’re building more than software — we’re building trust.

Protos Select and the Protos Coordinator Portal have been true game changers in the off-duty market, giving coordinators the ability to efficiently manage scheduling and operations, while empowering officers to take ownership of their shifts. Together, these platforms have redefined how off-duty work is organized and supported.
